Field Trip
Google released a new app called Field Trip this week. Working in the background of your Android, the app has cards that pop up on your phone’s screen when it thinks you’re around something interesting. For instance, if you walk by a building downtown, a card might pop up that explains its history. Or, if you’re near a popular restaurant, a card might let you know that there’s tasty food to be eaten inside.
Parking Panda
Parking Panda attempts to make finding your next parking spot a little easier. The app, which is a little pricier than your average parking spot, lets you reserve a space at your destination before you arrive. (No more driving around to look for a space!)
Foursquare
Already updated for iOS 6, Foursquare released another iOS update this week, simplifying the design of the app and adding personalized search categories. The map within the app can be toggled so it only displays previously visited places or locations you’ve saved, i.e. places you've added to your “to-see” list for the future.
Zeebox
Zeebox starts as a television channel guide, but quickly becomes much more. Clicking on a listing will bring up a particular show’s page, and connects you to other people watching the same program. Already popular in the UK, the app is now available in the U.S. for iOS devices.
Facebook Messenger for iOS
Facebook updated Messenger for iOS this week. The biggest change you’ll probably notice in the app is a new bubble design for conversations. Other improvements include the ability to see your full contact list by swiping left on the screen, and the ability to add your most-messaged friends to the top of your contact list. Facebook updated the Android version of the app last week.
Bad Piggies
Rovio launched its newest game, Bad Piggies, this week. The next installment of the Angry Birds franchise, Bad Piggies has you play the part of the pigs in the series. In the game you build unique contraptions for your pig to successfully make it through each level.
